Selena La'Chelle Collazo (she/her)

Hi! I’m Selena La’Chelle (MFT-LP)- I was born and raised in Southern California and am a first-generation university graduate holding degrees in Psychology (B.A. & M.A.), Education (M.Ed.), and Theatre Arts & Performance Studies (A.M. & Ph.D.). I had the honor of living and working in Mexico City from 2008-2015, where I served as a therapist, school teacher, and researcher studying the history of Africans in Mexico. My approach to therapy is based on the premise that all of who we are is not only welcome in the therapeutic process, but it often serves as our greatest asset. I believe therapy is client-led and therapist-accompanied, trauma-informed and healing-centered.

A therapeutic journey with me begins with a complimentary 15-minute session during which you will learn about my short-term approach. Therapy is designed to address current concerns while strengthening your ability to tend to your long-term mental wellbeing. We can utilize story-telling, journaling, mindfulness-based approaches, and EMDR in the creation and achievement of short- and long-term goals.

I am keenly aware that my own positionality as a queer, light-skinned, bilingual, and biracial Black woman is inextricably linked to how I move through the world. Viewing my work as a therapist through an anti-racist and anti-oppression lens, I have the honor of accompanying fellow Black women, LGBTQIA+ individuals of color, especially those moving through life transitions, first-generation undergraduate & graduate students, academics, artists, writers, and those holding intersectional identities rooted in multicultural and interracial families, partnerships, and transcultural and/or adult adoption. In addition, I work with couples as well as poly individuals and ethically/consensually non-monogamous partnerships. Lastly, each season I facilitate group therapy journeys using the 8-week Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) model.
