Who I Work With

Hi, I’m Elana (LMSW)

I am a queer, non-binary, Jewish, leftist therapist with roots in community mental health, offering both individual and couples therapy. My work is grounded in abolitionist principles, harm reduction, and a deep belief in people’s inherent worth beyond productivity, pathology, or compliance with oppressive systems. My goal is to support clients in developing greater self-understanding, self-compassion, and agency, while honoring the realities of the systems we are all living within.

I work best with clients navigating major life transitions, trauma and complex trauma, anxiety, and depression, particularly when these experiences are shaped by systemic violence, marginalization, and moral injury. A core niche of my practice is working with fellow anti-Zionist and liberationist Jewish clients who are navigating identity, grief, rage, belonging, and rupture within Jewish communities and beyond. I have experience supporting queer and trans clients, individuals managing ADHD and other forms of neurodivergence, people managing OCD, people navigating substance use from a harm reduction lens, polyamorous and consensually non-monogamous clients, and those impacted by gender-based violence and the criminal legal system.

I offer in-person and virtual therapy sessions for individuals in New York State. I am in-network with Aetna, New School student health, and NYU student health insurances.

My Approach to Therapy

My approach is psychodynamic and person-centered, with attention to how early relationships, intergenerational trauma, and current conditions shape our current contexts. I integrate CBT and DBT skills, mindfulness practices, and am recently trained in EMDR for trauma processing, tailoring interventions to each client’s needs, goals, and capacity. I aim to create a therapy space that is values-aligned, explicitly affirming, and grounded in honesty, consent, and care—where clients can tell the truth about their inner worlds and be met with compassion rather than judgment.

I am a licensed social worker (LMSW) in New York State. I received my MSW from Columbia School of Social Work.

Trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

I have a BA from American University in Sociology & Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies.

I am also RED CROSS BLS CERTIFIED
